Rheo-Optic Apparatus
An optical train directs light through transparent parallel
plates at normal incidence. Transmitted light is received directly by
a detector for dichroism measurements, or after passing through a circular
polarizer for birefringence measurements. Applications include determination
of the stress optical coefficient, separating the component dynamics in
compatible polymer blends, analysis of polydomain structure in liquid
crystals, and reorientation of internal structure under flow.
